Glasgow Lay Dominicans     Preaching continues

DOING THEOLOGY IN GLASGOW

Formed in 1986, we were a very small group of people living in or near Glasgow who met to pray, talk and study within the identity and influence of the Order of Preachers.

We were caught by the idea of preaching 'in the marketplace' and wanted to serve the church in Glasgow by making a contribution in this Dominican tradition.

Glasgow and the Dominicans go back a long way. In fact, the motto of Glasgow is overtly Dominican: Let Glasgow flourish by the preaching of Thy Word and the praising of Thy name."

Come and See

"Come and See" by

We were conscious of wanting to play an active part in spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ, but we were not clear about what that meant for us.

With the gentle push of Fr Bob Eccles OP and the greater awareness of Duncan MacLaren, one of our group, we launched ourselves into 'doing theology' for ourselves and producing plans to facilitate the same for other Glaswegians.

Duncan introduced us to 'contextual theology' and we began to consider our lives, our city, our world, and ask questions about it and God.

The talks detailed here do not include the Study days to honour St Catherine of Siena. Glasgow Lay Dominicans organised them with the encouragement, help and support of many other Dominicans.
