What are we?

WE are a group of people attracted by the Dominican ethos. We choose it as a way of living out our Christian faith. That is what brings us together and what we mainly have in common with each other.

The Dominican ethos has been handed down from the "founder, master and brother of the Order of Preachers", Dominic de Guzman. Dominic was a fervent follower of Jesus Christ and a passionate defender of the church. He responded to the urgent needs of the people of his day in a unique and Gospel- centred way. His way of living out his faith has become our way too.

We are followers of Dominic

St DominicPeople have been following St Dominic and copying his way of life for nearly 800 years. Some chose religious life and some remained lay people. People followed Dominic in order to serve God better: to seek the truth of the Word of God and to communicate their experience of it to others. His passion for Truth and his love of God were his legacy for posterity.

Blessed Jordan of Saxony, the second Master of the Order, wrote that the rule of the Friars Preachers consisted in "a life of holiness, learning and preaching".

In this he was adapting the definition of preaching by word and example ascribed to his master Dominic.
