WOMEN PREACHING
|
In 2001 Glasgow Lay Dominicans supported a new initiative in Glasgow. In the contemporary Catholic Church women are prohibited from preaching during the celebration of Eucharist. The new initiative by interested women and men from within the Dominican family and from outside it, took a very serious and studious look at this whole situation. |
They
investigated and debated 'preaching': what it is, the varieties of its
forms, and its different aspects within the Order of Preachers and within the
larger Christian community.
The last part of this initiative will move from investigation to experimental practice: commissioning some women to preach at times and in situations where it is already part of church tradition. |
