The English Province of the Order of Preachers
The English Province of the Order of Preachers has seven communities throughout Britain.
The Communities
- London
The community run a parish, aided by Dominican sisters, and provide accommodation for the Prior Provincial and for other Dominicans working or studying in London.
- Oxford
The principal training centre for Dominicans from Britain and for some from overseas and also a Hall of Oxford university. Many also come there for advanced studies and research. (See the Blackfriars Hall site from the page of Links in the Menu.)
- Cambridge
A comnmunity of students and writers with strong links with the University and currently the novitiate community, where men joining the Dominicans spend the first year of their formation.
- Leicester
With the co-operation of Dominican sisters, the community run a city centre parish and provide chaplains to the hospital, the prison and two universities.
- Newcastle-upon-Tyne
The community are involved in running a parish and also in ecumenical education in the area.
- Edinburgh
The Edinburgh community is a centre for studies, writing and teaching. It also provides the Catholic chaplaincy for Edinburgh university. The community's web page is at http://english.op.org/edinburgh/ and the chaplaincy has its own web pages at http://www.ed.ac.uk/~cathsoc/
